Intersex (obscure term is Hermaphrodite)

The condition of being born with genitalia or reproductive anatomy that is not easily labeled male or female, and/or developing secondary sexual characteristics of indeterminate sex or which combine features of both sexes. Many intersex infants and children are subjected to genital surgeries and hormone treatments in order to conform their bodies to the standard of either "male" or "female." There is a growing movement to prevent such surgeries in children to allow freedom of choice for intersex people regarding their bodies.
